Students working to transport material around and on and off an operating bandsaw sawmill
What We Do:
Salvage and Steward
We reclaim fallen and removed trees from UVA’s Grounds and the surrounding region, diverting valuable timber from landfills and tracking tree-specific carbon sequestration using cutting-edge software.
Mill and Dry
We mill logs with either a bandsaw mill or dedicated slabbing mill and dry the resultant lumber in solar kilns. This material is then used for custom products, student projects, faculty research, and sale to the public.
Build and Teach
We make retail goods, design and build community projects, and educate our community on circular material economies and local wood species utilization.
